The "Bell of Requiem and Hope" in Yamada town 1

The "Bell of Requiem and Hope" built at Mikura mountain of Yamada-machi in Iwate Prefecture of Sanriku in March 11, 2012. The bell is the remembrance and the requiem for the people who lost their lives in the Great East Japan Earthquake and pledge to restore the Yamada town to the victims, the survivers, and the supporters. We were able to build it with the cooperation of the local Rotary club, Hokkaido Nakashibetsu Rotary Club and other supporters.
It has been 8 years since the disaster, but we still can see the traces of the earthquake damages, and we keep rebuilding and reconstructing this area. We still have the task to rebuild the town and restore the population. However, the resourceful ocean and providence that overlook the Yamada Bay, famous for its oyster and scallop farming, is certainly continuing its way to recovery. The clear sound of the "bell of requiem and hope" rings throughout the city as if we can achieve the restore. We will "Never forget you", we can rebuild our town, and our communities ...as we survivors pledge to do it.
